Via: Autocar India

Our favourite India carmaker, Tata Motors, has just re-entered the passenger automobile CNG space in the market with the launch of the Tata Tiago. The carmaker has named its offspring as Tiago ICNG. The five-seater hatchback is at INR. 6.10 lakh. The carmaker has introduced four variants for buyers to choose from.

The Tata Tiago ICNG will compete with other budgeted hatchbacks in the segments such as the Hyundai Santro CNG, Maruti Suzuki Wagon R CNG, and the newly launched Maruti Suzuki Celerio CNG. How does the new Tata Tiago ICNG compete with its rivals? Read on to find out.

Being budgeted hatchbacks, all variants mentioned measure comfortably, measuring under 4 meters in length. The Tata Tiago is the longest in contrast to its competitors measuring 3,765mm and measures the widest when compared to its rivals, numerical being 1,677mm. However, the boot space shortens to just 80 litres, down from 242 litres of the Tiago petrol model due to the CNG tank.

The all-new Maruti Suzuki Celerio steals second place in context to overall width and length. Still, the Maruti Suzuki Celerio has the beat of the wheelbase, which measures the largest here.

All credits to the tall-boy stance, the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R measures the tallest here with 1,675. It also shares the same wheelbase as the Maruti Suzuki Celerio measuring 2,435mm.

When we discuss Engine, all vehicles mentioned can have a three-cylinder, naturally aspirated Engine except Hyundai Santro, which gets installed with a four-pot motor. The Tata Tiago CNG’s Engine has the highest Displacement, at 1.2 litres, capable of producing 73 hp of maximum power and a peak torque of 95 Nm. Interestingly, the Tata Tiago ICNG can be started directly on CNG mode, a feature not offered by any of its competitors.

Meanwhile, The Hyundai Santro grabs second place in output and Displacement. Two Maruti Suzuki variants are closely matched for production. The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R is more potent, generating maximum power of 59 hp and a peak torque of 82 Nm. A five-speed manual gearbox only accompanies all vehicles listed in this comparison.

There is no surprising fact that the two Maruti Suzuki variants in this comparison boast of the highest fuel economy numerical. The newly introduced Maruti Suzuki Celerio CNG leads the way, delivering 35.60 km/kg, while the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R has a mileage of 32.52km/kg. The Hyundai Santro is not far behind, with an official Fuel economy numerical of 30.48 km/kg. The Tata Tiago CNG bags the last place with a Mileage of 26.49 km/kg, while comparatively less than its competitors. However, what the Tata Tiago loses in fuel economy is made up for by offering the largest Engine with the most output here.
