What’s New In 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500? Pricing, Engine, Mileage

The full-size Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is familiar with truck things from Monday through Sunday. The vast range of powertrain options for the Silverado includes a 310 horsepower turbo four-cylinder, two V-8 engines, and a Duramax turbo diesel with 495 pound-feet of torque. The 6.2-liter V-8’s 420 horsepower, precise steering, and good brake pedal feel make short bursts of Corvette cosplay, but the Silverado’s occasionally bumpy ride will rapidly wake you up. Although it’s only available on select trim levels, a big infotainment screen makes up for a conservative interior design and average material quality. With a maximum towing capability of 13,300 pounds, the Silverado outperforms the Ram 1500 and its sibling truck, the GMC Sierra 1500, but falls short of the Ford F-150. This is a pick-them game, to put it briefly.

What’s New in 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Chevy did enhance the power and torque of its Duramax diesel power plant for 2023, even though most of the equipment remains the same. The upgraded turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six Duramax, available for Custom Trail Boss, LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, LTZ, and High Country, now produces 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque, an increase of 28 horsepower and 35 pound-feet. According to Chevy, the new diesel has greater power thanks to a reactivated turbo, new pistons with an improved combustion bowl, and new fuel injectors.

The Work Truck and Custom trim at the bottom is great for contractors and those on a budget, but the LT model is where the finer inside comes into play, and we believe it is the one you should buy. We’d customise our Silverado with the crew cab and standard-length bed for most cargo and passenger rooms. The 5.3-liter V-8 is more affordable and faster than the available diesel engine, so we’d go with it. Unlike the regular turbo-four, the V-8 also enables us to choose the Z71 Off-Road package, which includes a variety of improved gear that simplifies having fun in the mud and dirt.

Performance of 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

There is a Silverado 1500 for any task or adventure thanks to various engines, including a turbocharged four-cylinder, two V-8s, and a Duramax diesel 3.0-liter inline-six. The 6.2-liter, with 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, is the fastest of the two eight-cylinder engines and accelerates the Silverado High Country we tested to 60 mph in only 5.4 seconds. The smaller 5.3-liter engine with 355 horsepower required 6.1 seconds as a comparison. The 2.7-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine produces 420 pound-feet of torque. Although the Silverado we tried with the diesel engine had the slowest acceleration of the group, we were delighted by how smoothly and quietly it ran. Now with 495 pound-feet of torque, the 305-hp 3.0-liter inline-six Duramax is turbocharged. Every Silverado we’ve driven has seemed smaller inside than its size would imply. The vehicle handles well, and the brake pedal gives solid, comforting input. The Trail Boss variant will appeal to those seeking a more hardy half-ton Silverado. It has modifications like a 2.0-inch lift, gnarly tires, and other elements that make driving the winding road simpler and more enjoyable. The most severe off-road vehicle is the new ZR2, which we assess separately.

Payload Capacity

A serious hauler, the half-ton Silverado has a maximum towing capability of 13,300 pounds. The Ram 1500’s maximum towing capacity is beaten by 550 pounds, while the F-150’s is 700 pounds lower. The 6.2-liter V-8 Chevy engine has the most towing capacity, but the 5.3-liter engine can still pull up to 11,500 pounds. Models with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine have a 9500-pound towing capacity. The powertrains are less critical regarding the pickup’s payload, ranging from 1870 to 2280 pounds.

Fuel Economy

Although you shouldn’t count on the Silverado 1500 to save you money on gas, some of its many engine options are more efficient than others. According to EPA calculations, the optional diesel may get up to 23 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. The 6.2-liter V-8 provides city/highway estimations of up to 16/21 mpg.

The Silverado may be set up in various ways, from the bare-bones Work Truck variant to the luxurious High Country. Base versions offer simple necessities like manually adjusted front seats, manual locks and windows, and vinyl seats. But beginning with the LT level, the inside is much sexier owing to a more attractive dashboard with a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a sizable central touchscreen. The leather upholstery and open-pore wood trim inside The High Country make it very attractive. Although the rear seat in the crew cab is spacious and has plenty of headroom.

Nevertheless, this is a useful carrier with shrewd storage cubbies placed all over the cabin. While the Chevy doesn’t have the half-ton Sierra’s carbon fiber reinforced cargo bed, it is now offered with a Multi-Flex multifunction tailgate, which is comparable. Additionally, the variety of bed lengths the Chevy provides will please traditionalists.

Infotainment of 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Every Silverado 1500 is equipped with a touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a mobile hotspot as standard. Interacting with the system is easy because of the tactile knobs and buttons, and we valued how quickly the screen responded to our touch inputs. The 13.4-inch horizontal touchscreen in the LT level and upwards boasts additional capabilities such as a Google voice assistant, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and possible Amazon Alexa integration.

Conclusion

Notably, the Silverado 1500 Limited made a comeback for the 2022 model year, serving as a temporary solution until the new Silverado’s manufacturing starts. As a result, the Limited model will not be anticipated to continue through the 2023 model year.
