The Tata company has been spotted testing its Tata Altroz offspring with an Emission device fitted to it. Can this signify that a Tata Altroz CNG variant is in the making? Let’s find out!
In April 2021, the president of the Tata Motors Passenger Vehicle, Shailesh Chandra, announced plans to launch selected variants with company fitted CNG kits by 2021-2022. We have already spotted the carmaker testing its other CNG products named Tata Tiago, Tigor which are scheduled to launch on January 19th. Now noting Tata Altroz to the list, the company shows a strategy to prepare a well-rounded portfolio of CNG automobiles.
First Premium CNG Hatchback – Tata Altroz CNG
Namely, Hyundai and Maruti Suzuki provide CNG fitted models for their mid to low range automobiles. Therefore, if Tata moves ahead to offer Altroz a factory-fitted CNG kit, it will become the first-ever premium hatchback to accompany a company-fitted CNG option.
Aftermarket CNG Kit vs Company Fitted Kit
There have been occasions where Tata Altroz owners got CNG kits installed as an aftermarket accessory to save costs. The aftermarket CNG kit costs somewhere around INR. 50,000. The CNG kit slightly increases the fuel efficiency and provides a better mileage than the petrol engine.
The main factor why people opt for CNG automobiles is the price difference, CNG being cheaper than petrol. However, this leaves the car warranty invalid. If Tata introduces CNG fitted Altroz, the citizen will enjoy both good fuel efficiency and Tata’s post-purchase customer service.
Engine Options in Tata Altroz CNG
Tata Altroz is now available with four engine options a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine, 1.2 litres naturally aspirated petrol engine, 1.5-litre diesel engine. We can also expect an electric Altroz variant made available soon. The carmaker will likely reveal the CNG model with a 1.2 litre naturally aspirated petrol motor. The CNG models of the Tata Altroz is likely to have a five-gear manual gearbox similar to its petrol counterpart.
Conclusion
The new Tata Altroz CNG will produce less pollution in contrast to the petrol and diesel engines. Along with many more benefits to the customers, a CNG model of the Tata Altroz will also help the company market this product for commercial purposes.
